The top 10 trending topics in the manufacturing industry
Based on our numerous conversations and interviews held with CxOs of manufacturing companies, briefings with IT vendors, insights from various customer projects as well as a visit to the Hannover Messe 2018, we have recently published an overarching analysis of the major topics and themes that are currently trending in the manufacturing industry.
The top 10 trending topics can be broken down into three major categories: such that are more operational, others that are more complex to implement and newer, more strategic themes that are only just finding their way into the minds of company executives, but will become essential for businesses in the future.
As far as the first category (operational topics) is concerned, additive manufacturing and immersive technologies are ubiquitous trends; on the application side, B2B digital commerce is gaining traction. In the second category, we see themes that are more complex in nature, i.e. Industrial IoT, the digital twin, robotics and smart supply chains. With regard to the third category, the more strategic themes that are beginning to take shape, the CxOs are increasingly becoming aware of the need to collaborate with others within business ecosystems, transform B2B processes accordingly and – in order to enable a fully digitally transformed factory – become accustomed to the new role of data in the “smart factory”.
All these themes will be described and analyzed in more detail in our latest report, which can be accessed here (subscription-based).
